Shifting of Spatial Functions in Buton Palace Fortress in Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi

The Buton Palace Fortress is one of many cultural heritages of Buton Sultanate which has local wisdom values and shows regional identity. Initially, the Buton Palace Fort was built as a means of defence from pirate threats, as a settlement, as a place of solitude or exile, a grave location, as well as to face aggression from the Netherlands which began to glance at the potential of the Buton region. The purpose of this study was to analyze the shifting of spatial function in Buton Palace Fortress, which is located in Baubau City, Southeast Sulawesi Province. This research used qualitative research methods, namely descriptive analysis. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation and literature study. The theories used in this study include the spatial narrative in culture. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be seen that the Buton Palace Fortress basically still shows its identity as a historical site, however, currently it is necessary to zoning space to regulate the designation and function of the land. This is intended as one of the efforts to preserve the Buton Palace Fortress area, both tangible and intangible. Zoning is a spatial planning system in a cultural heritage site or area which includes the determination of spatial boundaries and the function of each space.
